After releasing the first version of ICQ Password Changer we noticed that Mirabilis only felt the need to change the password authentication scheme and the packet structures in their new beta version 99b Beta v.3.17 Build #2565. But the old clients are still using the same scheme and to block the grabber mirabilis has put a code that dedects the grabbers connection which has a slight difference than the original client. This makes the ICQ server port time-out and drop the connection. A simple tweak changed things back to normal and for the new Build #2565 version it was not a problem to adopt the same exploit to the new Server protocol. Hopefully the Mirabilis guys will release a new version which will make our work harder and more enjoyable.

THE EXPLOIT

Mirabilis has been extremely egligent in fixing protocol holes, and this allows accounts to be subverted with possible leaks of information. Merely by leaving your ICQ application logged in ( Java _or_ Win32 ) your account can be grabbed (the password changed withoyt knowing the original).An attacker can then use that account to obtain information from people contacting you, or to do other inappropriate things which would result in the account being terminated. If you value your ICQ account, do not log into it until a fix is available. Otherwise, you can hope no one bothers to hit your UIN --- there are a huge numbers and you might be lucky.

THE PROGRAM

Download the program on your own risk. This is the lastest update and should work on any Windows 95/98 computer but bugs have been reported already and it may malfunction under some spesific enivironments. WindowsNT version is not ready yet and will be released in late october. Please use the bug report feature in the software to send any discovered bugs and be sure to include your system information Ex. Windows 95 - Pentium 166mhz - 32 MB ram. Please do not abuse as our only intention is to make people aware of security holes and get them fixed. Thanks.
